My Ongoing Money Pit

For some reason I never had a build thread here. So I figured it was about time I contributed. I will mainly let the pictures speak for themselves, as I get this up to date. This is mainly in order. There are some gaps though. Like when I bought it, it was faded red, had no seats, ran 18s, sat on 13” steelies, etc, and obviously too ugly for pictures. I really wish I had shots of it.

My 1989 Honda Civic SI with a 92 DOHC ZC swap

About a month into owning it:

Then I decided I wanted to run Pinks ALL OUT with it (that was a waste of time):

Daily driven on 10 psi, making about 217whp, stock block, T3 .60/.63:

( I need another one of those stickers Chris)

Then it blew up and sat for a while:

Once I stopped being lazy and had a little spare cash, I decided to rip it apart:

And then it was satin black

Tranny needed some cleaning and a shift fork

Some port work

Oh, and this was my #3 rod

1000cc’s

Did a little painting

Assembly

Back in

Running

Ethanol

Stock caps over HXs

Ebay 44 trim, 19 psi 342/281

11.96 @ 116

Went back for some better times, but the clutch was done

And that was the end of the season. Car has sat for a while, and now its time to start getting ready for next year.

Re: My Ongoing Money Pit

Which is where Im at now:
Got a new mani. Thanks Green91

Found 3 holes in the intercooler, so I was donated a nice bar/plate from a friend

Looked like it would line up great for a backdoor

Time for fabbing up some pipes

Velocity stack will go here

I also picked up an SI tranny, so I could do away with the DX final. Just waiting to get my diff welded up, so I can put that back together, and put this in with it:

And it will be time for a new exhaust/DP:

And that’s where Im at now. I will update as the ball keeps rolling.

Thanks! Oh, and seriously Chris, I need a new “theZCR.com” decal please. Just lemme know how much and stuff.

Re: My Ongoing Money Pit

Diy backdoor. Kickass.

Nice manifold.

Let me know how you like the clutch. They are basically giving them away.

Re: My Ongoing Money Pit

I was running a VERY USED F1 Stage 3. XTD rates theirs to hold more torque than thre F1, and Ive never heard a bad thing from the D series guys. So I went with the XTD this time.

F1 was given to me, already badly beaten, I beat on it, blew the motor, put it back in, beat on it some more, turned the boost up, went 12s, then 11s, and then it finally gave after some more beating.

So I expect the XTD to hold up just as well, and being new, even better. Although, keep in mind that my "342/281" is corrected @ almost 6000'. But it was enough to trap 118 on 24.5s

Re: My Ongoing Money Pit

Thanks guys!

Yea, the way I figure it, the F1 is rated for 285 ft/lbs, and the XTD is rated for 325 ft/lbs. So if the F1 held up, I should be fine with the XTD. Especially since the F1 I had put in was missing half of 2 pads, and was probably 60-70% burnt up. It took a LOT of abuse, from dyno pulls, to highway pulls, to burnouts, to preloads, etc. I put about 12-15k miles on it, with a crap load of track time, and various abuse.

And seriously, I have not heard ONE bad thing from the D series crowd. They all LOVE the XTD stuff. So the clutch isnt even a concern for me. Although I have seen B series and other makes having issues with them.

I appreciate all of the kind words so far. Im hoping to get some welding done in the next few weeks, and have her up and running before spring. I want to see what I can max this dinky eBay turbo out at.

Re: My Ongoing Money Pit

Thanks. Yea, it is corrected, but it does pretty well. I guesstimate it at about 280whp uncorrected. The altitude kills us here in CO.

Im hoping to make closer to 400 corrected this year, with a MUCH better manifold, and no holes in the intercooler, the turbo should spool much better, and instead of 19psi, it will see 25 at least.
